Our story, mission, charism and values

We followed the needs in the harsh red goldfields

We went to meet the needs by following the goldminers. This took us to the harsh heat and dry red dust and then dispersed us across gold rush settlements and small centres around the Geraldton area. As Bishop Kelly said to Mother Gabriel “we need to do for God what men will do for gold” and we went, with flexibility and willingness to respond to the need.

Our foundation involved risk taking and sacrifice and stepping into the unknown

This pioneering foundation involved risk-taking and sacrifice. Arriving in the remote goldfields the sisters from Ireland and New Zealand had never experienced such challenging conditions. Whilst we had nothing, we relied on the providence of God and had everything we needed.

The present Day

Whilst we have journeyed through many places over the years, we have always sought to leave at the right time—discerning carefully when it was time to move on and ensuring that our departure was guided by wisdom and care. In doing so, we have continued to nurture and maintain deep, enduring relationships with the communities we served.

Some of our schools have reached their natural conclusion and closed, while others have been entrusted to the dedicated lay community whom we once taught and walked alongside. In this way, our mission has not ended but has instead been carried forward, living on through those who now continue the work with the same spirit of faith, service, and commitment.Would you like me to make this more formal and historical (like for an organisational history page) or more inspirational (like for a community-facing page)?

Through the ongoing change our living of our religious community life will continue to reflect who we are
