About The Dominican Sisters

The Dominican Sisters of Western Australia, is an autonomous group of women, part of a worldwide group of other independent Dominican Sisters. We were invited to the Geraldton Diocese in 1899 to provide Education and pastoral work in this vast area where the gold rushes were expanding rapidly. In 1942, We were invited to the Perth Archdiocese to provided Education in primary and secondary schools and later and tertiary Institutions.

In Oceania, we belong to the Federation of Dominican Sisters of Oceania which includes Dominican Sisters of North Adelaide, Holy Cross Congregation in Adelaide, Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Solomon Islands, and the New Zealand Dominican Sisters. All of whom are involved with Education – preaching and teaching.

Dominican Sisters International Confederation represents Dominican Sisters working n 109 countries across 6 Continents, with the goal to foster a more compassionate world order through the promotion of justice and peace, the integrity of creation and human rights, especially the rights of women; and to create and promote collaborative initiatives among members of the Dominican Family.

One key motto of the Order, to which we hold dearly, is:

“To contemplate and give to others the fruits of our contemplation.”
